Abstract

In the XRISM project, use JSS to re-process a large amout of XRISM low-level datasets to high-level science ready datasets when new calibration is made available. For individual XRISM users, carry out complex data analysis or simulation to interpret the observed data and compare with models.

Reasons and benefits of using JAXA Supercomputer System

In the XRISM project, when new calibration is required, large volumes of data can be reprocessed quickly, allowing the new, higher-order processed data to be distributed to users promptly. XRISM users can complete various model calculations and model fits in a short period of time, spend more time for comparing and analyzing the results.

Achievements of the Year

Demonstrated that JSS is effective for pipeline data processing of scientific satellites and for data analysis by individual researchers. In cases where a single FITS file generates a large number of small I/O operations (an area where LusterFS struggles) we significantly improved I/O performance by using a loopback device formatted with Singularity+ext3 (see Peer-Reviewed Paper 2).
