Abstract
Ice accretion is a threat to aircraft flight safety, so the evaluation of its influence is a critical factor in design and certification. This study focuses on numerical prediction of ice accretion that aims to accelerate aircraft development process.

Reasons and benefits of using JAXA Supercomputer System
We use JSS3 because ice prediction is an iterative process of solving airflow and droplet trajectory around an airfoil with ice accretion, solving liquid film flow on an ice surface, and grid regeneration according to the new ice shape, with the ice being in a complex shape, which requires substantial computational resources.
Achievements of the Year
We improved mesh deformation techniques for multi-shot analysis and evaluated their effectiveness by conducting icing analysis of a CRM65 wing model. The analysis proceeded to a duration time that is equivalent to that of an icing wind tunnel test, and a three-dimensional ice prediction result was successfully obtained. Also, to assess the applicability of our tool to rotating wings, we conducted two-dimensional quasi-steady icing analyses of a rotor blade model and identified technical challenges that should be addressed in future work.
