Abstract

The aeroelastic deformation of helicopter rotor blades affects the vibration and stability of the helicopter. The simulation technology is required to evaluate the aeroelastic deformation in the rotorcraft design. In this work, the research and development of aeroelastic analysis technology for rotorcraft are conducted to validate the prediction accuracy of the analysis tools and aerodynamic design of the blade.

Reasons and benefits of using JAXA Supercomputer System

Large-scale analysis is required to capture the tip vortices because the flowfield around a rotorcraft is dominated by the tip vortex.

Achievements of the Year

An aeroelastic analysis of helicopter rotor blades is performed using the rotorcraft CFD tool rFlow3D. A validation of implemented aeroelastic analysis method (delta-airoad method) is conducted based on HARTII workshop data. Numerical results show that the aeroelastic deformation agrees with the experimental data, and the numerical method for aeroelasticity was established.
