  • Members: Yoshiki Takama, Yoshihisa Aoki
  • Subject Category: Space(Space transportation)

Abstract

This research conducts the study of key technologies applied to future reusable launch vehicles including long-life rocket engines, lightweight structures, landing guidance, and small experimental vehicles to validate the technologies.

Goal

The objective of this research is to obtain technologies necessary to reuse first stages as one of measures to enhance the competitiveness of Japanese future launch vehicles.

Objective

The goal of this research is to validate technologies necessary to reuse first stages through ground and flight tests.

Use of the Supercomputer

Estimation of aerodynamic performance by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)

Necessity of the Supercomputer

Estimated aerodynamic characteristics are indispensable for the study of future reusable launch vehicles and small experimental vehicles.

Achievements of the Year

Opposing jet flow of vertical landing rocket was calculated by CFD. First-order accuracy calculation must be converged with the jet on from the beginning of the calculation, Next, second-order accuracy calculation must be slowly done from the first-order solution.
