Abstract

A high-precision, non-equilibrium thermal analysis model is developed for heat accumulators using PCM (Phase Change Material). And, the coupled analysis technology and real-time analysis technology of the thermal fluid region connected to the space vehicle digital twin are acquired.

Reasons and benefits of using JAXA Supercomputer System

In this study, the Enthalpy-Porosity method was employed with ANSYS Fluent whose licenses JSS3 had. In addition, parallel supercomputers of JSS3 was used to obtain the result.

Achievements of the Year

Reduced-order models using PINNs (Physics-Informed Neural Networks) and SINDy (Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics) to enable real-time thermo-fluid coupled analysis of PCM thermal storage systems were studied. The training data were generated through coupled thermo-fluid simulations. In the case of SINDy, separate models were created for the metallic (solid) part of the thermal storage unit and the phase-change material, and these were coupled together. As a result, in a simplified one-dimensional problem of the PCM thermal storage system, the model was able to predict temperature changes with an error of less than 3 K (Fig. 1), achieving a speedup of approximately 380 times compared to CFD-based analysis.
